Theologian are a band from New York that plays a mixture of black/death industrial, darkwave and coldwave and this is a review of their 2013 album "Some Things Have To Be Endured" which was released by Crucial Blast.
"Black Cavern Myopia" begins with some harsh power electronics, black metal vocals and industrial style synths which also leads up to some drum programming and after awhile clean singing female vocals make their way into the song.
"Ectothermism" begins with some dark sounding ambient synths, industrial sounds and melodic chanting and as the song moves on there are some sounds of torture being utilized in the background and towards the end their is a brief use of harsh power electronics.
"Gore-Stained Ramparts" begins with some ambient synths and drone style sound effects and as the song moves on it starts adding in some drum machine programming and harsh noise sounds as well as adding in darker and heavier elements.
'Grand Guignol" begins with some dark ambient/industrial synths, spoken word samples and drum programming as well as some melodic clean singing female vocals and then the music goes into a more darker and atmospheric direction.
Like Love, Only Real" begins with dark sounding synths and spoken word parts that utilize a good amount of reverb and then the song starts adding in some power electronics and towards the end there are some harsh sounding programmed beats being added to the song.
"The Conjoined Deviant Procession" begins with some harsh noise sounds, drum machine programming, synths and spoken word female vocals with the music going for more of a dark industrial sound.
'Welcome To The Golden Age of Beggars" begins with some harsh death industrial sounds and dark ambient synths which lead up to some spoken word parts and after awhile melodic vocals are added into certain sections of the song.
''Writhing Corpus Landscape" begins with some dark ambient sounds and after a few seconds spoken words, synths and melodic chanting make their way into the song as well as some heavy power electronics which bring in some experimental noise sounds and midway into the song atmospheric and neo-classical elements are added to the song as well as some harsh sounding drum programming.
Song themes cover Magick, Darkness, Pain, and Violence, while the production has a very strong, powerful and dark sound with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Theologian are a very great sounding hybrid of death/black industrial, darkwave and coldwave and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this project.
