Miel Noir/The Phoenix Swarm/Fiery Wings/Aorta/Folkworld/2019 Double Album Review

Germany's  Miel  Noir  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of gothic  rock,  apocalyptic  wave,  dark  ambient,  neo-classical  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "The  Phoenix  Swarm"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Aorta  and  Folkworld  and  also  consists  of  their  2019  ep  "Fiery  Wings"  as  a  bonus  disc.

Electro-industrial  sounds  and  programmed  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  hard  guitar  riffs  and  clean  goth  vocals  a  few  seconds  later.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  the  synths  also  add  in  some  elements  of  dark  ambient. One  track  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  elements  of  neo-folk  also  being  added  on  some  of  the  later  songs  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  touches  of  darkwave.

When  pianos  are  utilized  they  also  add  elements  of neo-classical  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  tracks  also  capturing  an  apocalyptic  atmosphere,  stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  album,  aggressive  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  a  few  songs  and  a  later  track  also  adds  n  touches of  Indian  music.

At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  some  influences  of  metal  and post  punk  and  the  songs  on  the  ep  also  show  more  of  a  minimalist  approach.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  English  and  German  cover  occultism,  poetic, mythological  and  philosophical  themes.

In  my  opinion  both  the  full length  and  ep  are  very  great  recordings  fro  Miel  Noir  which  also  show  a  great  amount  of  variety  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  gothic  rock,  apocalyptic  wave,  dark  ambient,  neo-classical  and  industrial,  you  should  check  out  this  double  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Mother  Kali  (For  Swarm)"  "Empty  Earth"  "Elevation"  and  "Intolerance".  8  out  of  10.

Electro  industrial  sounds  along  with  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  and  a  few  seconds  later  clean  singing  goth  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  most  of  the  beats  are  programmed  and  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  at  times  and  on  later  tracks  electric  guitars  are  utilized.

A  lot  of  80's  goth  rock  influences  can  be  heard  throughout  the  recording  and  melodic  guitar  leads  are  also  used  at  times  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  ambient  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  female  vocals  are  also  used  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  later  songs  also  add  in  touches  of  neo  folk  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  aggressive  screams  and  on  the  ep classical  guitars  are  added  onto  the  recording.

Miel Noir/From the Ashes/Indiestate Distribution/2016 CD Review

Miel  Noir  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  gothic  rock,  apocalyptic  wave,  dark  ambient,  neo-classical  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "From The Ashes"  which  was  released  by  Indiestate  Distribution.

Electronic  sounds,  spoken  word  parts  and  heavy  guitars  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  and  goth  rock  style  vocals  and  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  at  times.

Militant  beats  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  songs  along  with  some  elements  of  martial  and  the  music  can  get  very  atmospheric  at  times  while  also  mixing  in  a  touch  of  neo-classical  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  also starts  incorporating  industrial  and  drone  into  some  of  the  tracks  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  starts  getting more  diverse  and  some  of the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  on  the  bonus  ep  tracks  the  music  adds  in  some  traces  of  psychedelic  while  also  bringing  in  touches  of  electronic  dance  music.

Miel  Noir  creates  an  album  that  is  very  hard  to  classify  with  the  music  mixing  in  goth,  industrial,  martial, neo-classical  and  dark  ambient  to  create  something  very  original,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

Miel Noir/Honey And Ash/Steinklang/2011 CD Review

Miel Noir are a band from Hyberborea that plays a mixture of industrial, dark ambient and pop and this is a review of their 2011 album "Honey And Ash" which was released by Steinklang.

Electronic and Samples bring a very dark industrial sound to the music as well as some avant garde noise elements, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with some dark riffing that dominates throughout the recording.

Guitars bring in some very heavy and dark industrial sounds to the music with a good amount of distortion with one song utilizing clean playing and full chords and there are no guitar solos or leads present on the recording mixed in with some synths and pianos.

Vocals are mostly clean singing gothic/industrial vocals with some female vocals mixed in as well as some spoken word parts, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of German and English touching on some philosophers and poets such as Fredrich Nietzsche, Emily Bronte, and Charles Baudelaire as will as writing their own songs, as for the production it has a very dark and esoteric sound to it.

In my opinion Miel Noir are a very great sounding industrial/goth/dark ambient pop hybrid and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Das Honig Opfer" "In Empty Coldness" "Der Fiend" and "Eherne Ulmen". RECOMMENDED BUY.
