Phurpa/Queen Elephantine/Ita Zor/Atypeek Music/4iB Records/Misophonia Records/2021 Collaboration Album Review

Phurpa  are  a  music  project  from  Russia  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  they  team  up  with  Queen  Elephantine  on  this  recording  a  band  originally  from  Hong  Kong  but  now  resides  in  the  united  States  and  they  mix  their  2  seperate  musical  styles which  also  takes  the  ritualistic,  drone,  experimental  and  avant  garde  and  doom  metal  genres  and  mixes  them  them  together  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  collaboration  album  "Ita  Zor"  which  was  released  as  a  joint  effort  between  Atypeek  Music,  4iB  and  Misophonia  Records.

An  almost  silent  sound  stats  off  the  album  before  evolving  into  some  ambient  sounding  drones  while  the  throat  singing  and  chants  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling.  All  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  ceremonial  bells  also  being  added  into  the  background.

Flutes  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.  When  gongs  are  utilized  they  also  enhance  the  occult  atmosphere  of  the  songs  along  with  the  tracks  also  getting  very  tribal,  shamanistic  and  ethnic  sounding  throughout  the  recording.

The  songs  also  mix  in  a  good  amount  of  Asian  style  instruments  and  psychedelic  soundscapes  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  electronics  and  when  guitars  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  touch  of  doom  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while t he  song  themes  revolve  around  Tibetan  Bon  Shamanism.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collaboration  between  Phurpa  and  Queen  Elephantine  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritual,  drone,  experimental,  avant  garde  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8  out  of  10.

Visions/Phurpa/Monad/Cyclic Law/2018 Collaboration CD Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  collaboration  album  between  Germany's  Visions  and  Russia's  Phurpa  called  "Monads"  which  mixes  dark  ambient  and  drone  with  Tibetan,  shamanistic  and  ritual  music  and  the  album  will  be  released  on  April  25,  2018  by  Cyclic  Law.

Ritualistic  throat  singing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  soundscapes  while  drones  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  Tibetan  style  musical  instruments  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  ethnic  feeling.

At  times  the  music  gets  very  experimental  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  ambient  elements  along with  a  decent  amount  of  synths  and  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  sounding  very  different  from  each  other  and  also  taking  the  listener  on  a  shamanic  journey  and  percussion's  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

Visions  and  Phurpa  team  up  and  mix  their  2  different  styles  together  to  create  a  very  ritualistic  and  shamanistic  orientated  form  of  dark/ambient  drone  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collaboration  from  Visions  and  Phurpa  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  drone  and  ritual  music,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ascendance"  and  "Reminiscence".  8  out  of  10.

Phurpa/Gyer Ro/Cyclic Law/2017 Double CD Review

Phurpa  are  a  solo  project  from  Russia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  experimental,  drone,  ritual  and  shamanistic  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  217  double  album  "Gyer  Ro"  which  was  released  by  Cyclic  Law.

Percussions  and  Tibetan  style  folk  instruments  start  off the  album  along  with  some  ritualistic  chanting  that  has  almost  a  very  dark  and  demonic  feeling  and  after  awhile  shamanistic  and  tribal  style  drumming  is  also  added  into  certain sections  of  the  recording  and  all  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic in  length.

Spoken  word  parts can  also be  heard  at  times  and  coughs  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly  and  when  cymbals a re  utilized  they  give  the  songs  a  more  experimental  and  avant  garde  feeling  and  the  ritualistic  Tibetan  horns  conjure up  the  Bon  spirits  and  the  songs  also  utilize  a  great  amount  of  mantras.

Phurpa  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  an  ancient  Bon  Po  ritual  and  mixes  it  with  dark  ambient,  experimental  and  drone  to  create  something  original,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  around  Tibetan  Bon  Shamanism.

In  my  opinion  Phurpa  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of dark  ambient,  experimental,  drone,  ritual  and  shamanistic music  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Laughter  Of  To-Nag-Ma"  and  "Mu-Ye".  8  out  of  10.
