  Luxemborg's  solo  project  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going for  a  mixture  of  dark  folk,  industrial,  martial,  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  album  "Hegemonikon"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Tristol  Music  Group.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  adding  some  clear  neo-folk  style  vocals  onto  the  recording.  Martial  style  drum b eats  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  stringed  instruments  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also b e  heard  at  times.

  The  songs  also  mix  in  a decent  mixture  of  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  elements  while  acoustic  guitars  are  also  added  on  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks.  Touches  of  post  industrial  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  long  with  a  later  song  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  and  everything  song  also  sticks  to  a  slower  musical  direction.

  On  this  recording  Rome  takes  dark  folk,  post  industrial,  martial,  post  punk,  new  wave  and  electronica  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  sounding  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  matters  of  the  European  soul  in  an  ever-charging  modern  world  with  some  poetic  and  philosophical  views.

Julii/Interregnum/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Italy's  solo  project  Julii  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  instrumental  mixture  of  martial  and  neo-classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  album  "Interregnum".

  Dark  soundscapes  and  synths  which  also  use  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  martial  style  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later.  The  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  neo-classical  elements  and  none  of  the  songs  have  any  vocals,  lyrics  or  songwriting  being  utilized.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  epic  sounding  while  also  capturing  the  atmosphere  of  an  epic  or  historical  movie  soundtrack.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  getting  very  tribal  sounding  at  times  and  on  some  tracks  the  music  also  gets  very  militant  sounding.

  On  this  recording  Julii  mixes  martial  and  neo-classical  together  to  create  a  very  epic  sounding  recording  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  production  sounds  very  dark.

  Julii  are  a  solo  project  form  Italy  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  martial,  industrial  and  neo-classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  ep  "Rats  Of  The  Senate".  

  Martial  style  beats  and  neo-classical  style  orchestration  start  off  the  ep  and  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere.  All  of  the  drum  beats  are  also  programmed  while  all  of  the  songs  also  sound  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  drum  beats  also  adding  in  more  of  a  tribal  atmosphere.

  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  feeling  of  a  soundtrack  for  either  a  fantasy  and  historical  orientated  movie  soundtrack.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  of  the  beats  also  giving  the  songs  more  of  an  underground  industrial  touch.

  Greece's  solo  project  Dark  Awake  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  bringing  in  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  ritual,  neo-folk,  neo-classical,  martial  and  industrial  and  the  album  was  released  in  2021  by  Pesttanz  Klangschmiede  and  called  "Der  Edle  Ritter".

  Martial  style  beats  start  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  some  epic  sounding  synths  which  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  neo-classical.  Choir  style  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  dark  soundscapes  and w hen  electric  guitars  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  an  influence  of  extreme  metal.  

  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  while  some  of  the  programmed  beats  also  add  in  touches  of  industrial.  Each  song  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  the  tracks  also  capturing  the  atmosphere  of  either  a  fantasy  or  historical  movie  soundtrack  at  times.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Greece's  Kleistophobia  and  Dark  Awake  called  "ΑΜΑΥΡΩΣΙΣ"  which  was  released  by  AISZINI  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  KLeistophobia  a  solo  project  that  plays  black  ambient.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  dark  ambient  style  synths  which  also  add  in  a  variety  of  man  different  sounding  keys.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  black  metal  without  the  heavy  and  distorted  parts  along  with  all  of  the  songs  also  being  instrumentals  as  well  as  each  track  also  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  the  song  themes  focus  on  Occultism,  Black  Magick  and  Darkness.

  In  my  opinion  Kleistophobia  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  ambient  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dancing  With  The  Goat"  and  "Mephistopheles".

  Next  up  is  Dark  Awake  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  his  mixture  of  ritual,  dark  ambient,  martial,  industrial,  neo-folk  and  neo-classical.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  dark  ambient  style  synths  and  martial  style  drum  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere that  is  very  similar  to  fantasy  movie  soundtracks.  Touches  of  neo-classical  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks. 

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  ritualistic  soundscapes  along  with  each  track  also  sounding  different  from  each  other.  Melodic  chants  and  throat  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  some  black  metal  screams  also  being  utilized  briefly,  one  song  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  operatic  female  vocals.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  Occultism,  Left  Hand  Path  and  Magick  themes.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all f ans  of  dark  ambient  and  ritualistic  music.  8/5  out  of  10.

  Choirs  and  clean  vocals  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  acoustic  guitars  which  also brings  in  elements  of  neo-folk,.  Electric  guitars  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  shows  an  influence  of  punk  rock  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ethnic  style  instruments  and  ambient  style  synths  a  few  seconds  later.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  sounding  very  tribal  and  shamanistic  sounding  at  times  along  with  some  throat  singing  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording.

  Rome  are  a  solo  project  from  Luxemburg  that  plays  a  mixture  of  neo  folk,  martial  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "The  Lone  Furrow"  which  was  released  by  Trsol  Music  Group.

  Synths  are  dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  narrative  orientated  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later.  Nature  sounds  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  drum  beats  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  martial  feeling  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.

  Folk  instruments  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  clean  vocals  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  medieval  atmosphere.  When  grim  whispers  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  whistled  vocals.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  while  the  music  also  gets  very  repetitive  sounding  in  the  first  few  minutes.  When  synths  are  utilized  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  onto  the  recording  while  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  at  times  and  when  drum  beats  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  martial  and  militant  feeling.

Dark Awake/The Last Hypnagogue/Steinklang Industries/2020 CD Review

  Greece's  Dark  Awake  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  his  mixture  of  martial,  dark  ambient, neo-folk  and  neo-classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020 album  "The  Last  Hypnagogue"  which  was  released  by  Steinklang  Industries.

  Ambient  style  synths  and  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  drum  beats  a  few  seconds  later. When  whispered  vocals  are  utilized  they  give  the  songs  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  as  well  as  adding  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  while  touches  of  goth  can  also  be heard  at  times.

  Elements  of  martial  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  some  of  the  songs  are  instrumentals.  All  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  operatic  female  vocals,  spoken  word  parts  and  ethnic  instruments  being  added  on  the  recording  as  the  album  progresses.

  When  percussion  is  utilized  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  shamanistic  and  martial  atmosphere  along  with  one  song  mixing  the  percussion  with  neo-classical  style  synths,  touches  of  neo-folk  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  the  album  closes  with  a  cover  of  Throbbing  Gristle's  "Persuasion"  which  also  introduces  clean  male  vocals  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  an  invocation  to  reincarnation  and  the  continuing  awareness  that  every  moment  of  life  is  lived  to  the  fullest  potential.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dark  Awake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  martial,  dark  ambient,  neo-folk  and  neo-classical   RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Visuddha  (Chakra  Drinking)"  "Voudon"  and  "Einsoph".  8  out  of  10.

Yunclas/Tripalium Ligatum/Marbre Negre/2019 Cassette Review

  Yunclas  are  a  solo  project  from  Spain  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  mixture  of  power  electronics,  industrial,  martial,  ambient,  field  recordings  and  ritual  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Tripalium  Ligatum" which was  released  on  cassette  by  Marbre  Negre.

  Martial  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  and  power  electronics  a  few  seconds  later.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  songs  also add  in  a  great  amount  of programmed  beats  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  harsh  noises.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  some  tracks  also  bringing  in  elements  of  industrial  and  field  recordings.  Most  of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals  while  all  of  the  tracks  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other,  guitar  leads  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  one  song  also  adds  voices  and  acoustic  instruments  onto  the  recording  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very ritualistic  sounding.

  On  this  recording  Yunclas  moves  away  from  his  dark  techno  style  and  goes  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  power  electronics,  industrial,  martial,  ambient  and  ritual.  The  production  sounds  very  dark while  the  song themes  revolve  around  work.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Yunclas  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  power  electronics,  industrial,  martial,  field  recordings.  ambient  and  ritual,  you  should  check out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dolor  Machina"  and  "Patiens  Mora".  8  out  of  10.

  Greece's  solo  project  Dark  Awake  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  his  mixture  of  ritual,  martial,  dark  ambient,  neo-folk  and  neo-classical  from  his  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  ep  "The  Ma-nifsat-Ion  Of  Nuit  Is  At  End"  which  will  be  released  by  This  Winter  Will  Last  Forever.

  Dark  ambient  soundscapes  start  off  the  ep  while  the  songs  also  incorporate  a  great  amount  of  synths  which  also  adds  in  elements  of  neo-classical  onto  the  recording.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  instrumentals  and  all  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other.

  Tribal  and  shamanistic  style  percussion  is  also  added  onto  the  second  track  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  occult  atmosphere  while  also  adding  in  some touches  of  neo-folk  and  martial.  One  of  the  tracks  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  music  also  adds  in  an  otherworldly  atmosphere.

  On  this  recording  Dark  Awake  goes  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  and  occult  dark  ambient  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  Kenneth  Grant's  novel  "Cult  of  the  Shadow".

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dark  Awake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritual,  martial,  dark  ambient,  neo-folk  and  neo-classical. you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "LAShTAL(Formula  Of  The  Awakening)"  and  "The  Ma-nifsat-Ion  Of  Nuit  Is  At  End".  8/5  out  of  10.

Grave Of Love Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Hello! The band started in 2017, and right in the beginning it was just me. I recorded myself the whole 'Decay' EP in May/June '17 and few months later it was released by Rage in Eden Records on CD. I always loved neofolk music and wanted to do something based on that genre for many years, yet always I have probably been afraid in some way of playing acoustic guitar and sing with clean voice. It's like being naked - before Grave of Love all music I did was loud and much more extreme. While making first Grave of Love material I really wanted to make it diversified - have some pure neofolk songs, then some martial ones or even noise stuff.

2.So far you have released 2 ep's, musically how do they both differ from each other?

I think 'Decay' has a little bit different mood. It was recorded in really rough times for me. 'Rites of Change' has bigger dynamics, power and feeling of some hope? Also last song - 'Goodbye Little Traitor' - was recorded with my drummer Marcel Łękawa, who is currently playing also on new album. We have been playing together live since the beginning of 2019.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

Lost love, emptiness, misery, struggling with life and existence, trying to leave the past behind.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Grave Of Love'?

It was taken from Death in June lyrics - 'Accidental Protege' song. I had an idea to use it as a band name for many months before even starting recording the first material. I really like the sound of this name and some of the lyrics actually correspond very well with it. It brings you some grief when you hear it.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

I wanted to make really minimal artwork for this one and let the music speak by itself. We use few symbols - logos, the one used on 'Rites of Change' front cover is made mainly from algiz runes. I love how it looks, it was made by my friend AZ. On the top of the artwork you can also see eihwaz rune. I don't use too much runes, yet these two are very personal and close to me and I felt I need to use them here.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Best shows are definitely the two shows we played in March 2019 supporting ROME in Warsaw and Cracow. Great feedback, amazing shows. Also few days ago we had great opportunity to play at Castle Party Festival, for us it was first time to perform as trio - we added electric guitar to the arrangements. The show was really good! I have always good memories from Dziwny Event in 2018 - that show I was playing alone - only voice and guitar. To this day I meet people who have seen Grave of Love there and say it was really good one.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Currently we have only one show booked - Temple of Silence Festival in September. I really hope there will be more soon.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

As we finish mixing our new record soon we are going to check out who would be interested in releasing it. There is also possibility Rage in Eden would like to do this - we really enjoyed working with them on 'Decay' EP.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of neo folk?

So far it was really great. We receive a lot of positive feedback all the time, also all our shows had great reception. It's really great! Main thing for now is to get to as many people who may like our music as we can - promotion is the key.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Hopefully this year, almost all instruments are recorded, I'm going to record vocals in August/September. The new album has much more 'live' feeling. It also took us into brand new musical areas. It's not being a copy of other bands - we are seeking our own path in neofolk. Who has seen us live lately will know what I'm talking about.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Among the influences there are for sure Death in June, Sol Invictus, Herr Lounge Corps, Boyd Rice/NON, :Of the Wand and the Moon:, Les Chasseurs de la Nuit, C93, Arktau Eos, Swans and many many more. You asked what do I listen to nowadays - a lot Lingua Ignota, King Diamond, King Midas Sound and Valborg - as you see they are completely different things.

12.Can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in history and occultism?

I was always interested in history. Mainly ancient times and World War II. Occultism - well, persons like Aleister Crowley and Austin Osman Spare definitely had big influence on me. Although somehow nowadays I deal with it more like with the philosophy and seek some new ideas. It's very interesting thing, like whole man's mind.

  Grave  of  Love  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  neo-folk,  martial  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  ep  "Rites  Of  Change".

  Industrial  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  alter  which  also  brings  elements  of  neo-folk  onto t he  recording.  Spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Whispered  vocals  can  also be  heard  briefly  while  elements  of  martial  are  also  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  One  track  also  introduces  stringed  instruments  into  the  music  as  well  as  the  music  also mixing  in  elements  of  dark  ambient  and  noise  at  times  and  all  of  the  songs  sound  different  from  each  other  as  well  as  bringing  in  an  instrumental.

  Grave  of  Love  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  neo-folk,  martial  and  industrial  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  betrayal  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Graves  Of  Love  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  neo-folk,  martial  and  industrial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "We  Are  Lonely  Like  traitors"  and  "Goodbye  Little  Traitor".  8  out  of  10.

   Greece's  Dark  Awake  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  their  mixture  of  neo-classical,  neo-folk,  martial,  ritual  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Die  Sonne  Man"  which  was  released  by  Ultra-Mail  Prod.

  Field  recordings  along  with  some  dark  ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  avant  garde  and  experimental  at  times.  The  synths  also  bring  in  a  variety  many  different  sounding  keys  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  ritualistic  elements.

  All  of  the  songs  sound  very  different  from  each  other  while  the  music  also  gets  very  martial  at  times.  Elements  of  neo-classical  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  songs  also  utilizing  some  spoken  word  parts  and  one  track  also  introduces  folk  instruments  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  some  percussion  also  being  used  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Dark  Awake  remain  true  to  their  mixture  of  neo-classical,  neo-folk,  martial,  ritual  and  dark  ambient .  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  paganism,  Hermiticism,  Occultism,  Runes.  and  some  songs  are  recited  from  the  writings  of  Savitri  Devi,  Karl  Maris  Willigut  and  Arthur  Machen.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dark  Awake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  neo-classical,  neo-folk,  martial,  ritual  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Great  Pan"  Hermetic  Watchers"  and  "The  Daughter  Of  The  Sun".  8  out  of  10.

Xiphoid Dementia/Bastard Noise/Human Extinction Engine/Scry Recordings/2019 Split Album Review

 
  This  is  a  review of  a  split  album  between  Seattle,  Washington's  Xiphoid  Dementia  and  Bay  Area,  California's  Bastard  Noise  called "Human  Extinction  Engine"  which  will  be released  in  March  by  Scry  Recordings  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Xiphoid  Dementia  a  solo  project  that  plays  death  industrial  with  some  ambient,  martial,  drone  and  harsh  noise  elements.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  brutal  death  industrial  sounds  along  with  some  drones  and  elements  of  harsh  noise,  Spoken  word  samples  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  martial  sounds  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  a  great  amount  of  programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout his  side  of  the  recording.

  Elements  of  dark  ambient  and  atmospheric  soundscapes  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  3  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  synths  also  being  used  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  the  psyche.

  In  mt  opinion  Xiphois  Dementia  is  a  very  great  sounding  death  industrial  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Spirals"

  Next  up  is  Bastard  Noise  a  solo  project  that  plays  a  very  harsh  form  of  noise.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  harsh  noises  while  also  bringing  in  some  atmospheric  soundtrack  music  elements.  A  great  amount  of  power  electronics  and  underground  industrial  music  sounds  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  demonic  voices.

  When  high  pitched  screams a re  utilized  they  bring  in  elements  of  grind  and  noisecore  onto  the  recording  along  with  a  touch  of  black  metal.  Programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music,  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  song  themes  focus  on  dark,  metaphysical  and  political  topics. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Bastard  Noise  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  harsh  noise,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Extraterrestrial  Spring  Evening".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  death  industrial  and  harsh  noise.  8  out  of  10.

Dark Awake/Will Of Iron/Heathen Tribes/2018 EP Review

  Greece's  Dark  Awake  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  his  mixture  of  ritual,  dark  ambient,  martial,  neo  folk  and  neo  classical  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  ep  "Will  of  Iron"  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  Heathen  Tribes.

  Dark  ambient  style soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  ep  while  the  drum  beats  gives  the  music  more  of  a  militant  and  martial  feeling.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  at  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding.  When  clean  vocals  are  utilized  they  add  in  the  atmosphere  of  the WW2  era.

  The  second  track  is  a  cover  of  Bathory's  Song  to  Hall  Up  High"  which  replaces  the  metal  style  with  operatic  female  vocals  and  more  of  a  neo-classical  style  as  well  as  introducing  whispers  onto  the  recording.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  ritualistic  sounding  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  sounding  very  different  from  each  other.

  As  the  ep  progresses  folk  instruments  are  added  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  music  also  getting  more  experimental  sounding.  The  ep  also  closes  with  a  cover  of  Lordian  Guard's  Winds  Of  Thor".  the  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  Paganism  and  Occult  Philosophy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Dark  Awake  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritual,  dark  ambient,  martial,  neo  folk  and  neo  classical,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'Will  of  Iron"  and  "Libera  Nos  A  Mallo".  8  out  of  10.
