Rope Sect/The Great Flood/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 CD Review

Rope  Sect  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  death  rock  with  a  touch  of  black metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "The  Great  Flood"  which  was  released  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

Spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  harder  direction  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  At  times  the  music  also  captures  the  raw  energy  of  post  punk  along  with  the  vocals  being  done  in  a  very  clean  goth  rock  style  and  the  music  also  adds  in  the  aggression  of  metal  at  times.

Black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to them.  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  death  rock  style  but  done  with  a  more  modern  day  atmosphere  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing,  a  couple  of  tracks  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  blast  beats  as  well  as  keeping  the  music  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.

Rope  Sect  plays  a  musical style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  goth  and  death  rock  as  well  as  adding  in  some  elements  of  post  punk  and  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  apocalyptic  themes.

In  my  opinion  Rope  Sect  are  a  very  great  sounding  death  rock  band  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre, you  should  check  out this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Divide  et  Imera"  "Prison  Of  You"  "Flood  Floer"  and  "Dilluvian  Darkness".  8  out  of  10.

Deth Crvx/Mutant Flesh/Sentient Ruin Laboratories/2018 Full Length Review

Death Crvx  are a  band  from  Los  Angeles,  California  that plays  a mixture of  horror  punk,  dark  goth  and  death  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Mutant  Flesh"  which  was released  by Sentient  Ruin  Laboratories.

Post  punk  style bass guitars  start  off  the  album along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  an  80's  death  rock  style  as  well  as  the  music  also  utilizing  a  decent  amount  of  synths  and  the clean  vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  goth  rock  direction.

When  aggressive  vocals  are  utilized  they  add  in  a  touch  of  black  metal  while  also  giving  a  retro  style  of  music  more of  a  modern  touch  along  with  some  of  the  drumming  displaying  a  little  more  aggression  as  the  album  progresses  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  sticking  to  more  of  a  mid  tempo  style  and  saxophones  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

Death  Crvx  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  horror  punk,  dark  goth  and  death  rock  and  mixes  it  with  a  touch  of  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while the  lyrics  cover  horror,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Death  Crvx  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  horror  punk,  dark  goth  and  death  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Phantom  Blood"  "Chrome  Lips"  "Lycanthropic  Possession"  and  "Yellow  Eye".  8  out  of  10.

Atriarch/An Unending Pathway/Relapse Records/2014 CD Review

Atriarch  are  a  band  from  Portland,  Oregon  that  plays  a  style  of  doom/death  metal  that  also  brings in  elements  of  sludge,  black  metal,  death  rock,  punk,  psychedelic,  drone  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "An  Unending  Pathway"  which  will  be  released  on  October  28th  by  Relapse  Records.

A  very  dark  and  ambient  orientated  ritualistic  drone  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  and  a  few  seconds  later  clean  playing  and  drums  start  to  find  their  way  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  which  evolve  into  melodic  goth  rock  singing  after  awhile  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  riffing.

Once  death  and  black  metal  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  the  album  starts  to  go  into  more  of  a  heavier  musical  direction  along   with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  band  also  mixes  their  gothic  side  in  with  the  heavier  material  which  also  starts  to  incorporate  more  elements  of  sludge  metal  as  the  album  progresses.

One  of  the  later tracks  shows  the  band  adding  in  some  fast  and  raw  elements  of  black  metal  along  with  some  blast  beats  for  a  few  seconds  before  making  a  return  to  a  slower  doom  orientated  sound  and  one  of  the  later  tracks  also  shows  the  band  bringing  in  a  couple  of  long  and  epic   song  that  also  brings  back  clean  playing  into  the  bands  musical  sound .

Atriarch  bring s in  a  lot  of  different  musical  styles  ranging  from  death  rock,  psychedelic,  sludge  and  a  touch  of  black  metal  to  create  some  music  that  is  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Atriarch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of   doom/death  metal  with  elements  of  sludge,  black  metal,  death  rock,  punk,  psychedelic,  drone  and  noise  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Entropy"  "Bereavment"  and  "Veil".  8  out  of  10.
