The House/Some Divine Misadventure/2014 Full Length Review

This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  The  House  which  shows  the  band  returning  back  to  a  more  funeral  doom  metal  and  sludge  orientated  sound  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "Some  Divine  Misadventure".

A  very  dark  and  heavy  doom  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  few  seconds  growls  and  screams  are  added into  the  music  which  gives  the  recording  a  black  metal  feeling  along  with  some  funeral  sounds  being  utilized  in  the  background  and  after  awhile  dark  sounding  melodies  are  added  into  the  music.

Clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also  has  a  grim and  depressive black  metal  feeling  to  it  at  times  along  with  all  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  after  awhile  drones  are  brought  back  in  for  a  few  seconds  and  some  of  the  later  tracks  also  display  some  funeral  style  synths.

The  House  combines  the  heaviness  and  atmosphere  of  funeral  doom  with  the  rawness  of  sludge  and  the  vocals  of  depressive  black  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  on  this  recording,  the  production  has  a  very  dark  and  raw  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  depressive  and  suicidal  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  The  House  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  and  sludge  influenced  funeral  doom,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lonesome  Hero"  and  "Pseudo".  8  out  of  10.

The House/Pre-Death/2012 Full Length Review

This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  The  House  which  shows  the  band  going  for  a  more  drone  musical  direction   with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2012  and  called  "Pre-Death".

Water  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  music  elements  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  drones  are  added  into  the  recording  and  after  the  first  song  the  band  brings  in  another  long  and  epic  in  length  track  which  sees  more  elements  of  drone  and  noise  being  added  into  the  music.

With  this  recording  drone  is  the  main  element  in  the  bands  musical  sound  as  well  as  every  track  being  all  instrumental  and  they  also  bring  in  a  good  amount  of  dark  ambient  sounds  along  with  a  brief  use  of  synths  and  there  are  no  traditional  instruments  being  present  on  this  recording.

The  House  stay  away  from  the  funeral  doom  metal  and  sludge  elements  that  where  present  on  the  first  release  and  creates  a  more  instrumental  ambient  drone  sound  this  time  around  and  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  sounding.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  The  House  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ambient  drone,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Violence"  and  "Second  Sighting".  8  out  of  10.

The House/This Is Where We Live/2012 EP Review

The  House  are  a  band  from  Toronto,  Ontario,  Canada  that  plays  a  mixture  of  funeral  doom,  sludge  and  dark  ambient  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  ep  "This  Is  Where  We  Live".

Dark  ambient  sounds  and  drums  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  heavy  doom  metal  riffs  and  melodic  guitar  leads  which  leads  up  to  some  sludge  style  screams  and  the  bass  guitars  also  bring  a  very  heavy  sound  along  with  some  elements  of  harsh  noise  being  added  in  and  the  music  has  a  garage  feeling  to  it  at  times.

As  the  ep  progresses  they  bring  in  a  track  that  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  brings  in  more  drone  style  sounds  as  well  as  being  all  instrumental  and  the  band  returns  back  to  a  more  doom  metal  orientated  sound  on  the  last  track  along  with  some  psychedelic  style  sound  effects  being  utilized  briefly.

The  House  creates  a  very  raw  and  heavy  sound  with  their  mixture  of  funeral  doom,  sludge,  drone  and  dark  ambient  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  dose  of  punk  rock  style  energy,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  angry  and  pissed  off  themes.

In  my  opinion  The  House  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  funeral  doom,  sludge,  drone  and  dark  ambient  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Shit  In  My  Eyes"  and  "Vagrant".  8  out  of  10.
