The House are a band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that plays a mixture of funeral doom, sludge and dark ambient and this is a review of their self released 2012 ep "This Is Where We Live".
Dark ambient sounds and drums start off the album before adding in heavy doom metal riffs and melodic guitar leads which leads up to some sludge style screams and the bass guitars also bring a very heavy sound along with some elements of harsh noise being added in and the music has a garage feeling to it at times.
As the ep progresses they bring in a track that is very long and epic in length and also brings in more drone style sounds as well as being all instrumental and the band returns back to a more doom metal orientated sound on the last track along with some psychedelic style sound effects being utilized briefly.
The House creates a very raw and heavy sound with their mixture of funeral doom, sludge, drone and dark ambient as well as bringing in a dose of punk rock style energy, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover angry and pissed off themes.
In my opinion The House are a very great sounding mixture of funeral doom, sludge, drone and dark ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Shit In My Eyes" and "Vagrant". 8 out of 10.
