Vacuus are a 1 man band from Florida that plays a mixture of ambient, and funeral doom metal and this is a review of his self titled and self released 2014 album.
A very dark ambient and atmospheric sound starts off the album which gives the recording and epic feeling along with some synths and you can also hear drones and soundscapes in the musical sound and a few minutes later distorted guitars make their presence known in the music and they also bring in a decent amount of melody.
All 4 of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the album divided into 2 different concepts and the guitar on the first 2 tracks is all open note riffing and on the 3rd track they start using more chords and bring a more funeral doom metal sound to the music as well a s mixing them with drones.
After awhile the guitars bring in some clean playing which gives the music a more post rock feeling and the whole album is all instrumental and the music sticks to a slow and ambient direction from beginning to end while having some heaviness to it at times.
Vacuus creates a very dark, instrumental, and original sound with his music focusing more on an ambient drone style while also bringing in guitars and adding in elements of funeral doom metal at times to create a musical style of his own the production has a very dark, lo-fi and ritualistic sound while the album is divided into 2 different concepts with the first half covering The Year of The Inferno and the second part The Carbon Space.
In my opinion Vacuus is a very great sounding instrumental mixture of ambient, drone and funeral doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Carbon Space Part One". 8 out of 10.
