Spirals are a musical project that describes themselves as 'alien sex music' and the music is heavily rooted in darkwave, krautrock, ambient and drone and this is a review of their self titled album which will be released on cassette on February 27th by Pacific Threnodies.
Programmed beats along with some powerful sounding bass guitars start off the album while all of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the songs also bringing in a great amount of atmospheric sounding drones and the whispered vocals also gives the songs more of a black metal feeling.
When synths are utilized they bring in elements of ambient, krautrock and darkwave while melodic guitar leads are also used at times along with one of the tracks being an instrumental and as the album progresses the music gets more experimental as well as the music sticking to either a slow or mid paced direction.
Spirals plays a musical style that takes darkwave, krautrock, metal, ambient and drone and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Spirals are a very great sounding mixture of krautrock, metal, darkwave, ambient and drone and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Spirals" and "Frozen". 8 out of 10.
