Northumbria are a band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that plays ambient/drone/doom metal with some black metal influences and this is a review of their self titled 2012 album which was released by TQL Records.
Drums and bass guitar are all absent on this recording, while the rhythm guitars are all drone/doom metal riffs with a good amount of ambient influences being thrown into the music as well as a great amount of heavy distortion as well as a brief use of soft and clean playing, as for, as for the synths they bring a very dark avant garde/ambient sound to the music .
Vocals when they are utilized are all high pitched black metal screams which are only used on the first song, while the song themes cover dark and depressing themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Northumbria are a very great sounding hybrid of dark ambient, drone and doom metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lux Lunae" and "Black Seas Of Trees". RECOMMENDED BUY.
