Beneath The Storm are a 1 man band from Slovenia that plays a mixture of doom, sludge, funeral and drone which he calls horror doom sludge and this is a review of his 2014 album "Evil Reflection" which was released by Argonauta Records.
Dark sounding drones start off the album along with some spoken word samples a few seconds later which leads up to a slow, dark and heavy doom metal direction along with some deep death metal growls and depressing melodies a few seconds later and there are also some high pitched screams which also adds in black metal elements into the musical sound.
All of the tracks are very long and epic in length and there are also a good amount of horror movie samples being utilized throughout the recording and you can also hear some synths being utilized in the background which also enhances the dark atmosphere of the album and as the album progresses you can hear some distorted amplifier drones and noises being added into the music at times along with a great amount of sludge influences and the music sticks to a slower direction from beginning to the end of the album and there is a brief use of a melodic guitar lead being utilized on one of the tracks.
Beneath the Storm stakes the darkest, heaviest and slowest elements of funeral, sludge and doom metal along with a slight black metal feeling to create a new genre, 'horror doom sludge' with his musical style, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover darkness.
In my opinion Beneath The Storm are a very great sounding horror doom sludge project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Helen" and "Frozen". 8/5 out of 10.
