Necropoli are a band from Italy that plays an atmospheric form of funeral doom/death metal with elements of industrial and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "I".
Distorted sound effects start off the album along with some birth noises and atmospheric sounds which leads to a slow, dark and heavy funeral doom metal sound as well as utilizing some deep death metal growls and after awhile melodic guitar solos and leads find their way into the music, after awhile the bass playing gets powerful and there is a mixture of both clean and heavy parts in the bands musical sound along with a small amount of acoustic guitars and nature sounds.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and in some parts you can hear small amounts of robotic vocals and industrial and experimental noise influences at and as the album progresses the music starts bringing in fast parts and brutal blast beats in certain sections of the recording while the main focus is mostly on a slow doom/death metal sound.
Halfway through the album elements of dark ambient along with some synths are added into the bands musical sound and they also start adding in more influences from the early 90's doom/death metal genre and they manage to make every song sound different while you can still tell it is the same band on all of the tracks, on the fourth song violins start becoming a part of the music and they add a more depressive feeling to the recording and the last song is more of an experimental/drone track which also utilizes some evil sounding whispers.
Necropoli create a very interesting style of funeral doom/death metal which is also very atmospheric and utilizes underground industrial elements and the band also adds in blast beats which are also very uncommon to this genre, the production sounds very dark and powerful while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion Necropoli are a very great sounding atmospheric, funeral doom/death metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ashes Of My Soul" and "Silence Awaits Me". 8/5 out of 10.
