Truthseeker are a band from Boston, Massachusetts that plays an instrumental mixture of doom metal, ambient, post and prog rock and this is a review of their 2013 ep "Weightless At Dawn" which was released by Hypnotic Dirge Records.
The ep starts out with dark sounding acoustic guitars and a few seconds drums and synths start to kick in which also leads to some distorted post rock elements being added onto the recording before going into a heavier doom metal direction along with melodic guitar leads.
As the ep progresses the band adds a good amount of melody to their heavier parts while the clean sections bring in progressive rock elements and they also bring in some very powerful sounding bass guitars and on the fourth song you can also hear some spoken word parts being utilized in the background.
This band shows a lot of diversity and originality with the music and they combine doom metal with a lot of progressive and post music as well as bringing in elements of ambient and atmospheric sounds to create a sound of their own.
Song themes cover poetry, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording along with one of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Truthseeker are a very great sounding mixture of doom metal, ambient, progressive and post rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band and ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Daybreak" and "Through the Waves". 8 out of 10.
