Ulvesang are a duo from Canada that plays a very dark form of neo-folk and this is a review of their 2018 album "The Hunt" which will be released in March by Nordvis Produktion.
Nature orientated soundscapes start off the album along with some drum beats which also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling while drones and synths are added onto the recording a few seconds later along with some ritualistic yet melodic chanting and after awhile acoustic guitars are added onto the recording.
A great amount of folk music elements can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while most of the tracks sound different from each other along with the guitars also bringing in a good mixture of both finger picking and full chords as well as the vocals being done in a clean fashion and when synths are used in the background they also give the music more of an atmospheric feeling and a couple of the tracks are instrumentals.
Ulvesang plays a style of neo-folk that is very dark and melancholic sounding, the production sounds very dark while the song themes focus on Shamanism, Nature and Melancholia.
In my opinion Ulvesang are a very great sounding dark neo-folk duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Invocation" "The End" "The Run" and "The Truth". 8 out of 10.
