New York's Gridfailure have returned with a new recording with the music being a mixture of horror movie soundtrack, experimental and avant garde and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "When The Lights Go Out Vol. II".
Dark soundscaoes and field recordings start off the album while the synths bring in elements of ambient along with the music getting very avant garde and experimental at times as well as a great amount of the tracks being instrumentals and a couple of songs are very long and epic in length.
At times the music gets very atmospheric while tormented voices and spoken word parts can also be heard at times along with some songs also adding vocals, acoustic guitars, keyboards and organs into the music as well as all of the tracks sounding very different from each other and also capturing the atmosphere of a horror movie and as the album progresses elements of noise can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Gridfailure takes experimental, avant garde and horror soundtrack music and mixes them together to create something very original, the production sounds very dark while the song themes focus on supernatural voices, dimensional vortex transitions, cadavers, paranoia, stalkers and unexplained phenomena.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Gridfailure and if you are a fan of experimental, avant garde and horror soundtrack music, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From Portals" "Veiled Presence" and "The Lights Go Out". 8 out of 10.
