Equimanthorn are a band from Texas that plays a very ritualistic and occult form of dark ambient and this is a review of their 2007 album "Exalted Are The Seven Throne Bearers Of Ninnkigal" which was re-issued on vinyl in 2015 by Shaytan Productions.
Ritualistic spoken word parts start off the album while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length. When synths are utilized they bring elements of dark ambient onto the recording along with the music also adding in some ethnic style instruments and percussion's which also adds in more of an Eastern Occultism atmosphere.
At times the music brings in more of a tribal and shamanistic feeling along with the keyboards also adding in a slight psychedelic touch in some parts of the music. All of the tracks sound very different from each other while the music also shows an influence of black metal one some of the tracks.
A lot of the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding at times and as the album progresses one of the songs also introduces melodic chants onto the recording which also summons Kali Ma's spirit into the music as well as the closing track being an instrumental. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover Esoteric, Occultism, Eastern Mysticism and Ancient Sumerian Mythology themes.
In my opinion Equimanthorn are a very great sounding ritualistic and occult dark ambient band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "When Sevem Came Unto The Fundament" "Who Is The Great King" and "The Submissive Myth Of Mirror Waters Rising". 8/5 out of 10.
