Pavor Nocturnus are a solo project from Italy that plays a mixture of ritual, drone, dark ambient, experimental and field recordings and this is a review of his 2021 album "Bosch" which was released as a joint effort between Dio Drone and Toten Schwan Records.
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the album while all of the drum beats are also programmed. Field recordings are also mixed in with the dark ambient sections while most of the music also instrumental along with the music also adding in a decent amount of synths and the music also has its experimental moments.
Ritualistic soundscapes are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording while the music is mostly rooted in more of an electronic style. All of the songs also sound very different from each other along with one track also adding in a small amount of techno style beats and at the times the music also brings in a very disturbing soundtrack style and ritualistic chants are also added on the closing track.
Pavor nocturnus plays a musical style that takes ritual, dark ambient, drone, experimental and field recordings and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark while the song themes focus on the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch.
In my opinion Pavor Nocturnus is a very great sounding mixture of ritual, drone, dark ambient, experimental and field recordings and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Paradiso Terrestre" "Inferno" and "Inferno Musicale". 8 out of 10.
