Drott are a band from Norway with members from Ulver and Enslaved that plays a very progressive, experimental and blackened form of folk music and this is a review of their 2021 album "Orcus" which will be released in September by Norse Music.
Stringed instruments which also bring in elements start off the album while the clean guitars also give the songs more of a progressive feeling. Atmospheric sounding synths are also a very huge part of the recording along with all of the musical instruments also having a v ery powerful sound to them.
Electric guitars can also be heard at times and they also add in touches of black metal while most of the music is also done in an instrumental direction. Melodies are also added into some parts of the album along with the music also having its experimental moments as well as one song also adding in a brief use of clean vocals, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and all of the drum beats are also programmed.
Drott plays a musical style that takes progressive rock, experimental and folk and mixes it with some touches of black metal to create a sound of their own while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion Drott are a very great sounding experimental, progressive and blackened folk music band and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Caerdroia" "Psychopomp" "Grey Gull" and "Orcus". 8 out of 10.
