Caithness are a band that plays a very dark and occult form of ambient/drone and this is a review of their 2012 album "The Knell Of Mourning" which was released by Kalpamantra.
Synths bring a very dark and atmospheric ambient/drone sound with a variety of being different keys to the music and is also the only musical instrument that is present on this recording except for some vocals and a small amount of drum programming, in addition the songs are a mixture of short and long songs.
Vocals are all clean singing male and female chanting as well as a brief use of spoken word parts, while the song themes cover religion and occult themes, as for the production it has a very dark, strong and powerful sound to it.
In my opinion Caithness are a very great sounding religion themed dark ambient band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check this album out. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Knell Of Mourning" "Animae Ressurecto" "Monument" and "Erosion". RECOMMENDED.
