Phobocosm are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays death metal with some elements of doom, black metal and ambient and this is a review of their 2016 album "Bringer of Drought" which will be released in May by Dark Descent Records.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some noises being in the background and after awhile the music starts evolving more more of a dark and heavy sound that is very close to doom metal and after awhile death metal growls make their presence known on the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Elements of ambient can be heard in the music at times and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and some of the riffs also bring in some morbid sounding melodies and the guitar leads also bring in more of a dark and melodic style to the bands musical sound and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also a touch of black metal in the darker sections of the music.
Phobocosm plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in a very dark and evil style of death metal while also mixing in elements of ambient, doom and black metal to create a musical style of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Phobocosm are a very great sounding dark death metal band with elements of ambient, doom and black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tidal Scourge" and "Fallen". 8/3 out of 10.
