Sonorian Rebel Black Magick are a solo project from Arizona that consists of Andrew Markuszewski of Lord Mantis and Avichi and plays a mixture of western outlaw folk music and doom and this is a review of his 2016 ep "Desert Hellfire" which was released by New Density.
Acoustic guitars that also use a great amount of finger picking start off the recording along with some percussion's a few seconds later and after awhile melodic vocals make their presence known on the recording and whispers can also be heard in t he music at times and the music also brings in a lot of neo folk elements.
At times the music brings in the atmosphere of driving through a southwestern dessert and the guitars also bring in a great amount of full chords and one of the tracks is very long and epic in length and while the music is all acoustic you can still hear a small amount of doom metal elements in the songs.
Sonoran Rebel Black Magick plays a musical style that takes a western form of folk music and mixes it in with a touch of doom to create a style of their own, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover burying enemies in nameless graves, long rambling nights and general outlaw behavior.
In my opinion Sonoran Rebel Black Magick are a very great sounding mixture of Western outlaw folk music and acoustic doom and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Little Boy". 8 out of 10.
