This is a review of a compilation from Kalpamantra called "The Echoing Black" which consists of dark ambient and drone bands or artists and we will review the songs one by one.
Phelios brings us "Tharsis" a song that starts out with some ambient soundscapes before adding in some atmospheric drones and the music is also all instrumental while also utilizing a great amount of synths.
Abandoned Asylum brings us "Passing Uncharted Constellations" which starts out with some drones and avant garde sounds as well as being very experimental and all instrumental while also having the atmosphere of dark ambient.
Phragments & Terra Sancta brings us "No Mans Land" which starts out with a very dark ambient soundscape that is done mostly on synths while also being very atmospheric at the same time as well as being all instrumental and after awhile drones are added into the track and the song is very long and epic in length.
Collapsar brings us "Bruised Lights" which starts out with some field recordings and drones along with some soundscapes which also evolves into more of an atmospheric and dark ambient direction while also being very experimental and the song also brings in spoken word samples and the song is also very long and epic in length.
Leila Abdul-Raul & Qepe brings us "The Opening(Remix)" which starts out with a very dark and atmospheric ambient synth sound and you can also hear some electronic music elements in the track as well as some programmed beats and after awhile female vocals are added into the music.
Teeth Engraved brings us "Rust Eater" which starts out with a very dark and atmospheric ambient soundscape along with some field recordings being added into the song a few seconds later and the song also gets very experimental and avant garde at times while also bringing in static noises and the song is very long and epic in length.
Hall Of Mirrors brings us "A Forest Of Fire" starts out with field recordings and a few seconds later clean guitars are added into the music and they also give the song more of an ambient and post rock feeling while also adding in distorted drones.
Theologian & Shock Frontier brings us "Guabencex" starts out with some ambient drones and soundscapes and voices can also be heard in the background and the song is very long and epic in length while also being very atmospheric.
Isolator & Sublinik brings us "Encommium" which starts out with field recordings and after awhile start mixing them in with drones along with some ambient and experimental touches and the song is very long and epic in length.
Shibalba brings us "Hymn To the Climbing Sacarab" which starts out with some field recordings and spoken word parts which also gives the track more of a sci fi atmosphere while also adding in drones and elements of ambient as well as some whispers and as the song progresses melodic chants can also be heard briefly and the song is also long and epic in length.
Of Earth And Sun brings us "9 (Teh)' which starts out with programmed beats and ambient soundscapes and after a few seconds melodic chants are added into the song and after awhile distorted screams can be heard and they also bring in a black metal atmosphere and synths are also brought into the music as well as some distorted guitars and the track is very long and epic in length.
Analfabetism brings us "VildSvin" which starts out with field recordings while also mixing in some noises and industrial elements a few seconds later and after awhile the song gets more atmospheric and brings in ambient elements.
Teeth Engraved & The Vomit Arsonist brings us "Chobatsu" which starts out with dark ambient soundscapes and field recordings before adding in more atmospheric sounding synths and drones and the track is very long and epic in length.
Subklinik brings us "Dead Forever" which starts out with dark ambient soundscapes along with some atmospheric elements and the song is all instrumental and the last song is very long and epic in length.
T.O.M.B brings us "Malevolent Interferences" a very distorted sound along with some noises and drones and the music also brings in elements of industrial and the track is all instrumental and the track is very long and epic in length.
Shock Frontier brings us "Kessler's Syndrome" which starts out with field recordings along with soundscapes which also brings in experimental and ambient elements and after awhile sci fi sounds are added into the music.
Tvlpu brings us "Galg" which starts out with harsh industrial sounds along with some elements of ambient and spoken word parts can also be heard in the music at times and the song also brings in touches of noise.
Aderlating brings us "The Sword Of Christ" which starts out with ambient drones and the music can be very atmospheric and the song also gets very experimental and avant garde and the song is very long and epic in length.
Kristoffer Oustad brings us "Second Orbit Part IV (Demo)" starts out with spoken word parts and starts mixing in an ambient sound that also uses a great amount of synths which also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling and the song is very long and epic in length.
Theologian brings us "Invocation Of Disgust" which starts out with ambient style synths which also gets more atmospheric after awhile the song gets more experimental while also bringing in spoken word parts.
T.O.M.B & Gnawed brings us "Vessel" which starts out with harsh power electronics and noises and the song also all instrumental and is all very long and epic in length and you can also hear field recordings in the music at times.
Isolator brings us "Draining The Veins Of Chrisy" which starts out with a very distorted guiat amp noise along with some drones and ambient soundscapes and the song also brings in a touch of black metal and is very long and epic in length.
Climax Denial brings us "A Little Secret: An Inbibition To Spread" which starts out with dark and atmospheric sounding ambient synths and drones and the song is also all instrumental and over 10 minutes in length and also gets more experimental as the track progresses.
Abjection Ritual brings us "Enabler" which starts out with spoken word samples before adding in drones and ambient soundscapes and the music also brings in screams that also gives the songs a touch of black metal and after awhile also brings in elments of harsh noise.
Concrete Massacra brings us "Tendrils Of Smoke" which starts out with distorted drones and also gets very avant garde and experimental after a few seconds while also mixing in elements of harsh noise and distorted screams can also be heard in the background at times and the song is very long and epic in length.
The Vomit Arsonist brings us "Blood" which starts out with field recordings and soundscapes and after awhile the song also starts bringing in elements of drone, and nois along with some aggressive screaming vocals.
Gnawed brings us "A Variance" which starts out with a very distorted and heavy sounding drone and you can also hear some black metal influences in the music and after awhile elements of harsh noise are added into the track as well as some aggressive screams and the track is very long and epic in length.
Black Earth & Sewer Goddess brings us "Allegories Of An Exhumed Knowledge" which starts out with field recordings and voices in the background as well as some soundscapes that also gives the music more of an atmospheric and ambient feeling and the track is long and epic in length.
Abjection Ritual & Teeth Engraved brings us "To Live, And Spite Them By Living" which starts out with dark ambient soundscapes which are done mostly by synths and after awhile drones are added into the song and the music also gets more avant garde and experimental while also bringing in elements of industrial and harsh power electronics/noises and the song is very long and epic in length.
Hypsiphrone brings us "Apollyon" which starts out with some field recordings before adding in harsh noises and power electronics which also gives the music an experimental feeling and the track is all instrumental.
Xiphoid Dementia brings us "Disconnected" which starts out with dark ambient style synths and nature sounds and the music also has the atmosphere of a 70's horror movie soundtrack at times while also being very long and epic in length.
Black Earth brings us "Upon Labyrinths Of Broken Mirrors" which starts out with field recordings and soundscapes which also gives the track more of an avant garde feeling and the song is all instrumental.
Steel Hook Prosthesis brings us "Hand Of Glory" which was recorded live and starts out with an underground industrial style as well as some aggressive screams which also gives the song more of a black metal feeling and the track also brings in a decent amount of harsh nosies.
Linekraft closes the compilation with "Genkaku" which starts out with distorted drones and radio noises which also gives the music and avant garde feeling before adding in more power electronics and harsh noise elements.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding compilation and i would recommend to fans of the more underground styles of industrial, noise, drone, and dark ambient. 8 out of 10.
