Death Of Self are a band from Chicago, Illinois that plays a very dark form of industrial and this is a review of their 2012 album "Embracing The Things We Hate About Ourselves" which was released by Bugs Crawling Out Of People.
A very dark yet harsh industrial sound starts off the album along with some programmed beats that get very brutal at times and the music also incorporates a great amount of synths and the vocals are industrial style screams that also have a black metal tinge to them at times and there are also some spoken word samples in the songs.
Harsh power electronics can be heard in the music at times and some songs also bring in elements of old school electro-industrial music and some of the tracks bring in distorted sounds and the music always stays true to a dark style from beginning to ending of t he r ecording.
Death of Self creates a style of industrial that is very dark and stays away from the more mainstream style of t he genre to create some very disturbing music, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover sociopathic and self destructive themes.
In my opinion Death of Self are a very great sounding dark industrial band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "No Control" "Empty" "The Edge" and "Realizations". 8 out of 10.
