Rigor Sardonicous are a band from New York that plays funeral doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2018 ep "Ridenti Mortuus" which will be released in November.
A very dark and melodic sound starts off the ep before going into a heavier funeral doom metal direction while the vocals are mostly deep and guttural death metal growls along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Grim screams can also be heard briefly will most of the riffing is done on power chords along with the songs sticking to a slower direction and no guitar solos and leads are ever utilized and the songs focus more on a primitive style of funeral doom metal and on the closing track clean playing can also be heard briefly.
Rigor Sardonicous plays a style of funeral doom metal that is very slow and heavy sounding, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover death, obscurity and occultism themes.
In my opinion Rigor Sardonicous are a very great sounding funeral doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Smiling Dead" and "Intereo Parum Infantia". 8 out of 10.
