Sulfur are a band from Spain that plays a experimental form of drone/doom/death metal and this is a review of their self titled 2015 ep which was released by The Lament Congregation.
Experimental sounds start off the ep and a few seconds later the music starts going into more of a dark doom/death metal direction along with some growling vocals as well as a touch of funeral doom and black metal and the first 2 tracks stick to a very slow, dark and heavy sound along with a brief use of blast beats and fast parts while the second side focuses more on experimental sound
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the second along with some elements of noise and reverb as well as adding in guitar sounds and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also bring in a great amount of experimental soundscapes and as the second side progresses the music starts getting a bit more diverse.
Sulfur plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in doom/death metal but also makes their style a bit more ritualistic by also adding in experimental, ambient and drone elements to create an original style, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Sulfur are a very great sounding mixture of drone, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Illud Tempis". 8 out of 10.
