Naught are a band from Phoenix, Arizona that plays a mixture of funeral doom metal and sludge and this is a review of their self released 2015 album which was released by Battleground Records.
A very dark and atmospheric ambient sound starts off the album along with some clean playing and after awhile the music gets a lot more heavier and goes for more of a sludge/doom metal direction along with some high pitched screams that bring a very heavy black metal influence to the bands musical style.
A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when solos and leads a re utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic musical fashion and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and they also bring in a brief ambient drone instrumental while the heavier side of t he bands musical style brings in a great amount of funeral doom metal elements and all of the songs also stick to a very slow musical direction and some of the riffs also bring in a small amount of dark sounding melodies.
Naught creates a very dark and heavy recording t hat is mostly rooted in sludge and funeral doom metal while also mixing in the vocal style of black metal and elements of atmospheric, ambient and drone music to create a style of their own, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover nature, depression and loss themes.
In my opinion Naught are a very great sounding mixture of funeral doom metal and sludge and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I, The Wraith" and "Oblation". 8 out of 10.
