Towards Darkness are a band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada that plays a very atmospheric form of funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Tetrad" which was released by Solitude Productions.
Clean playing and music samples start off the album before going into a very heavy and slow funeral doom metal direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals also being in between aggressive screams and death metal growls.
Keyboard are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music while some of the tracks are very long and epic in length. At times the songs also get very atmospheric sounding along with one track also being an instrumental which also adds in a brief use of harmonica's before returning back to a heavier direction.
Clean playing also make a return in certain sections of the recording, as the album progresses a brief use of spoken word parts and clear vocals can also be heard briefly along with some songs also adding in a small amount of sound effects, the whole album also sticks to a slower direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, death, depression and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Towards Darkness are a very great sounding atmospheric funeral doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Weight Of Years" and "The Void". 8 out of 10.
