Ivan are a duo from Australia that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a melodic form of funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Silver Screens" which was released by Solitude Productions.
A very slow, dark and heavy funeral doom metal sound starts off the album while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly deep death metal growls along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them and the music also has its atmospheric moments.
Screams can also be heard in some parts of the music while the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Elements of sludge metal can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with some songs also adding in a small amount of keyboards and violins and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style, clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, all of the music sticks to a slower direction and the album closes with an instrumental.
On this recording Ivan takes their melodic style of funeral doom metal into more of a different yet creative direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover horror, demons, death and darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ivan and if you are a fan of melodic funeral doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Silver Screams" and "Underneath the Tapestry". 8 OUT OF 10.
