Hocus are a solo project from Portugal that plays a mixture of experimental and harsh noise and this is a review of his 2022 album "Narrow" which was released by Collective Casa Amareia.
Dark soundscapes start off the album while the music also gets very experimental sounding at times. All of the songs also stick to an instrumental direction along with the songs also mixing in a great amount of diverse power electronics which also gives the album a lot more variety and diversity.
Harsh noises are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording while all of the songs also sound very different from each other. A great portion of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music ranging from moody sections before getting very harsh and brutal sounding and the album also has its lo-fi moments.
Hocus plays a musical style that takes experimental and harsh noise and mixes them together to create a sound of his own as well as keeping everything instrumental while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion Hocus is a very great sounding mixture of experimental and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Zhei" "Depr" and "Ans". 8 out of 10.
