Profan are a musical project from Portugal that plays a mixture of noise, drone and ritual and this is a review of their 2008 album "Shamanic Invokations" which was re-issued in 2022 by Khthon.
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the album while the only track that is presented on the recording is also over 27 minutes in length. Ambient style synths and ritualistic drum beats can also be heard at times along with the song also adding in a great amount of samples and as the recording progresses noises start making their presence known.
When electric guitars are added onto the recording they also introduce elements of metal into the song and as the album progresses the music also gets more diverse sounding and most of the album also sticks to an instrumental direction as well as some harsh power electronics also being utilized briefly towards the end.
Profan plays a musical style that takes drone, noise, ambient and ritual and mixes it in with some metal style guitars to create a sound of their own while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion Profan are a very great sounding mixture of noise, drone, ambient and ritual and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this project. 8 out of 10.
