Servants Of The Mist are a band from Florida that plays funeral doom/sludge metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Gross Knowledge of Genital Mutilation".
Distorted drones start off the ep along with some spoken word samples and after the intro heavy distortion finds its way into the music which leads up to a slow and heavy funeral doom direction along with death metal growls and high pitched sludge screams which also have a black metal feeling to them at times.
Bass guitars have a very dominant sound to the music that is presented on the ep along with most of the tracks being very long and epic in length, when guitar solos are added into the music they bring a very old school doom metal feeling to the bands musical style as well as having a melodic tone to them.
On some of the later tracks the band brings back the spoken word samples as well as adding in a more old school punk rock feeling into their musical sound and they return back to a more slower and heavier sound on the last song as well as adding an atmospheric feeling into t heir music
Servant Of The Mist create some very slow and depressing sounding funeral doom metal with their music while also adding a good amount of sludge metal and punk into their musical style which results in a sound of their own, the production is very dark, raw and heavy sounding while the lyrics cover dark, demented and sadistic themes.
In my opinion Servants of the Mist are a very great sounding funeral doom/sludge metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Undeserving" and "Gross Knowledge Of Genital Mutilation". 8 out of 10.
