Alhazred is a 1 man band from Germany that plays a Lovecraft inspired form of dark ambient and this is a review of his 2014 album "The Music Of Erich Zann" which was released by Senseless Life Records.
Bell sounds start off the album along with some drones coming out of the synths and the music has a very dark and ritualistic feeling to it which also gets more atmospheric once the ambient elements start to kick in which also bring in traces of neo classical but in a more primitive manner.
At times the music starts evoking a dark and epic dungeon synth feeling as well as having elements that remind me of fantasy movie soundtracks and the music also gets very avant garde, occult and experimental at times along with a good amount of the tracks being very long and epic in length along with the music getting more diverse as time goes on by and the last song is a cover of Burzum's "The Crying Orc".
Alhazred has a very interesting sound with his music taking dark ambient and dungeon synth and making it sound more occult and epic, the production sounds very dark and raw while the song themes are inspired by the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion Alhazred is a very great sounding dark ambient artist and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Nameless City" and "The Great old Ones". 8 out of 10.
