Mournful Congregation are a band from Australia that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very atmospheric form of funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Concrescence of The Sophia" which will be released by 20 Buck Spin.
A very slow, dark and depressive funeral doom metal sound starts off the album along with some melodies being added into their musical style and a minute later spoken word parts and death/doom metal growls are added into the music along with some atmospheric synths and after awhile melodic guitar solos and leads are added into the music.
Acoustic guitars when they are utilized make the bands musical style have a more dark and emotive atmosphere along with small traces of classical and there are also a small amount of grim vocals that bring a black metal feeling to the recording and both of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Mournful Congregation remain true to their atmospheric funeral doom metal sound bring in 2 epic songs that define the genre at its best, the production sounds very dark, powerful and professional while the lyrics cover dark and metaphysical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mournful Congregation and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Silence Of the Passed". 8/5 out of 10.
