The Osedax are a band from Virginia that plays an atmospheric mixture of sludge, doom and post metal with some elements of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "Meridians" which will be released on January 17th.
Atmospheric soundscapes which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music start off the album while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Elements of sludge and doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the vocals bring in a screaming style that is also influenced by hardcore.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while clean vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The songs also mix in a great amount of post metal influences along with some synths also being utilized at times and one track also introduces clean playing onto the recording.
Black metal screams are also added into some of the songs and when the music speeds up blast beats can also be heard along with the focus being mainly on a slower style, melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion The Osedax are a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of sludge, doom and post metal with some touches of black metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beacon/Ox Eye"and "Ratlines". 8 out of 10.
