Coalminer are a duo from the Philippines that plays a mixture of power electronics and harsh noise and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Evocation For The Damned" which was released in 2019 by Camellinggus Records.
Harsh noises and power electronics start off the ep while all 3 of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Aggressive screams and shouts can also be heard at times along with some spoken word parts also being added into certain sections of the recording as well as the noises also showing some diversity.
All of the tracks sound very different from each other while the music also shows some influences of the Japanese and Cold Meat Industry style of the 90's. At times the recording also serves as a soundtrack for nightmares and suicide attempts and on the closing track the vocals also get more demonic sounding.
Coalminer plays a musical style that takes power electronics and harsh noise and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover isolation, depression, anxiety and inevitable death themes.
In my opinion Coalminer are a very great sounding mixture of power electronics and harsh noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Vibrations In the Human Skull". 8 out of 10.
