Fleshpress are a band from Finland that plays a very heavy form of sludge/doom metal with elements of black metal and this is a review of their self released and self titled 2002 album.
"Rise Of the Superior" which is also the first song on the album opens up with drum playing and a few seconds later bass guitars come in along with some heavy doom metal guitar riffs which also utilize some melody and it also leads up to high pitched sludge screams that have a black metal edge to them and you can also hear psychedelic sounds being utilized in the background and the song closes with a spoken word sample.
"All Things Broken" begins with spoken word parts before going into heavy guitar riffs along with some drums a few seconds later and after a couple of minutes screams finally start to kick in as well as the guitar riffing utilizing more melody as well as bringing in avant garde sound effects in the background which also lead more distorted guitar amp noises.
'Trust No-One Coming Home" opens up with movie samples before adding in some bass and heavy guitar riffs as well as some screams and you can also hear elements of punk in the guitar riffing and after awhile t he guitar playing slows down and starts utilizing some melody.
"Jumibian Bongoloid" kicks in with heavy guitar riffs along with some drums a few seconds later as well as some high pitched screams and the guitars also utilize melody in certain sections of the song and halfway through t he song there is a brief use of spoken word samples and psychedelic sound effects.
"( )" which is also the last song on the album begins with powerful sounding bass guitars and amp noises as well as some psychedelic sound effects which also leads to heavy guitar riffs and drums and as time goes on by high pitched screams finally make their way into the song and a few minutes alter there is a brief use of spoken word parts being utilized.
Song lyrics cover misanthropy, anger, and disgust, while the production has a very strong, powerful, dark and heavy sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Fleshpress are a very great sounding doom/sludge metal band with elements of black metal and you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rise Of the Superior" and "()". RECOMMENDED BUY.
