Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies are a band from Sweden that plays an occult form of stoner rock along with noise and black metal elements and this is a review of their 2013 album "Earth Air Spirit Water" which was released by Van Records.
"Chiaroscuro" which is also the first song on the album opens up with nature sounds and spoken word parts which involve a crazy preacher and a few seconds alter psychedelic sounds, drums and bass guitars kick in along with some 70's rock style clean singing and a minute later there is a brief use of slide guitars before bringing in a mixture of male and female vocals and towards the end the music goes into a more avant garde noise direction.
"Next Stop Universe B." begins with experimental avant garde noise sounds before adding in bass guitars, drums and psychedelic sounding guitar solos and leads which also leads up to some melodic clean singing vocals and during the last minute psychedelic sounds take over the song.
"The Deep, Dark Waters" opens up with ambient sounds and powerful sounding bass guitars before the drums, psychedelic sounds and vocals kick in along with some guitars in the background and then the song goes into a more experimental direction and halfway through the song their is a good amount of guitar leads that dominate the song for the last 5 minutes.
"The Ghost Of Valentine" kicks in with dark avant garde sounds and the song is all instrumental and a 6 minute long ambient/space song.
"Molasses" which is also the last song on the album begins with drum beat, bass and melodic guitar leads along with psychedelic/space sounds and synths in the background and the song has a mid 60's/early 70's sound to it and a few minutes later melodic female clean singing vocals become a part of the song and halfway through the song guitar solos and leads start to come in and towards the end you can also hear acoustic guitars making their way in.
Song lyrics cover Occult themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the album as well as most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies are a very great sounding psychedelic occult/stoner rock and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chiaroscuro" and "The Deep, Dark Waters". RECOMMENDED BUY.
