Dartropia are a 1 man band from France that plays a funeral form of doom/death metal and this is a review of his self released 2014 album "Sons Of Gaia".
Dark sounding synths start off the album giving the music and epic ambient feeling before going into a slow and melodic funeral doom metal direction along with some deep death metal growls and after awhile depressive leads and solos find their way onto the recording along with most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
Clean playing can be heard in certain sections of the recording while most of the music sticks to a slow doom metal direction and when synths are mixed in with the heavier parts the album starts having more of an atmospheric feeling and as the album progresses spoken word parts can be heard briefly and at times the vocals almost have a grim black metal feeling to them and there is also a brief ambient instrumental before making a return back to a heavier musical direction.
Dartropia creates a very dark and melancholic sound with his approach to atmospheric funeral doom/death metal and keeping everything in a slow and depressive musical direction, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover darkness and mythological themes.
In my opinion Dartropia are a very great sounding atmospheric funeral doom/death metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Things That I See" and "Sons Of Gaia". 8 out of 10.
