Day Before Us are a band with members from both Greece and France that plays a mixture of dark ambient, folk, and modern classical and this is a review of their 2014 album "Child Of A New Light" which was released by Triple Moon Records.
Dark sounding keyboards and ethereal female vocals start off the album and they also give the music and operatic feeling and you can also hear people noises in the background at times as well as some spoken word parts and on the following track ambient soundscapes find their way onto the recording.
Drones can be heard in the music at times along with an experimental avant garde approach to music and the keyboards on the tracks gives the music a very dark and melancholic feeling along with some of the songs being very long and epic in length and after a couple of instrumental vocals make their return onto the album while the drones and soundscapes also stick around, one acoustic guitars are added into the music the album starts having a more medieval and pagan folk music feeling to it.
Day before us creates a very dark sound with their music taking the modern classical genre and mixing it with soundscapes, dark ambient, drones and a touch of neo-folk to create an original sounding recording, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover dark and metaphysical themes.
In my opinion Day Before Us are a very great sounding mixture of dark ambient, folk and modern classical music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Blood Out Of A Mothers breast" and "Wounded Angels". 8 out of 10.
