Chalice of Suffering are a band based in Minnesota with some members from Massachusetts and Bulgaria that plays funeral doom metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "For You I Die" which was released as a joint effort between Times End Records and GS Productions.
A very dark, heavy and atmospheric funeral doom metal sound starts off the album along with some melodies and all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them while the solos and leads are also done in a very depressive and melodic style and after awhile death metal growls make their presence known on the recording.
Spoken word parts can be heard in some parts of the songs while the vocals also bring in a grimness that is very close to black metal at times and flutes can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses clean singing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and there is also a brief use of bagpipes on a few tracks while all of the songs stick to a very slow musical direction and the last track also brings in a small amount of clean playing and spoken word parts.
Chalice Of Suffering plays a style of funeral doom metal t hat is very slow, heavy, dark and atmospheric while also changing things around a bit by incorporating flutes and bagpipes, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover depression, sadness, loneliness and grief themes.
In my opinion Chalice Of Suffering are a very great sounding funeral doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Darkness" "Alone" and "Void". 8 out of 10.
