Kollaps are a band from Australia that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of post industrial and primitive noise and this is a review of their 2019 album "Mechanical Christ" which was released by Cold Spring Records.
Industrial style soundscapes start off the album along with some power electronics and harsh noises a few seconds later. Spoken word parts can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the music also utilizes a great amount of percussion beats and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Aggressive industrial vocals are also a very huge part of the recording along with the music also mixing in a great amount of no wave elements. Some tracks also add in some bass and electric guitars as well as most of the tracks sounding very different from each other and as the album progresses elements of noise rock can also be heard, acoustic guitars and clean vocals are also added onto the closing track.
On this recording Kollaps remains true to their mixture of post industrial, harsh noise and no wave from their previous release. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover desperation and the lack of resolve that is both the crux of modern social ills and at the very heart of the human condition.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Kollaps are if you are a fan of post industrial, harsh noise and no wave, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crucify" "Blood Premonitions" and "Love Is A War". 8 out of 10.
