Asping are a band from Greece that plays a mixture of experimental, avant garde and metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "The Lion Of Piraeus" which will be released in June by AnnapurnA.
Hard guitar riffs start off the album that also get very heavy sounding at times while some tracks also show them going into a cleaner direction. One of the tracks is very long and epic in length and also introduces operatic female vocals onto the recording and the music also incorporates a lot of metal elements.
Spoken word parts can also be heard at times and also gives the music more of a ritualistic feeling. Synths are also added into some parts of the songs and also gives the album more of an atmospheric feeling and at times the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding and as the album progresses the riffs start incorporating more melody and a couple of the later tracks are instrumentals as well as some black metal elements being utilized when the riffs speed up.
Asping plays a musical style that takes experimental, avant garde and metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, The production sounds very dark while the lyrics are written in Greek and cover Scandinavian and Mediterranean Paganism and History.
In my opinion Asping are a very great sounding mixture of avant garde, experimental and metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Clouds" "Seope" and "Vaggvisa". 8 out of 10.
