Plague Of Carcosa are a duo from Chicago, Illinois that plays an instrumental mixture of drone, dark ambient, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2019 ep "Ocean Is More Ancient Than The Mountains" which will be released in July by Sludgelord Records.
Distorted sounding bass riffing starts off the ep while also giving the songs the heaviness of sludge and doom metal. Both of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with all of the music being instrumental with no vocals or lyrics ever being utilized and all of the music sticks to a slower direction.
All of t he music is done with drums and bass guitars which still capture the heaviness of power of most bands. A small amount of melody can also be heard in the music at times along with some drones and elements of dark ambient being added into some parts of the recording and at times the music also captures the darkness of black metal.
Plague Of Carcosa plays a musical style that mixes drone, sludge and doom metal to create a sound of their own while keeping everything instrumental. The production sounds very dark while the song themes are inspired by the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion Plague Of Carcosa are a very great sounding mixture of drone, sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Madness At Sea". 8 out of 10.
