The Haunting Green are a band from Italy that plays a mixture of drone, dark ambient, ritual, dark electronic music, post and doom metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Natural Extinctions" which was released by Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Atmospheric sounding drones start off the album along with some ambient style synths and drums a few seconds later. At times the music also gets very tribal, ritualistic and psychedelic sounding while the slow and heavy riffs are very heavily rooted in sludge and doom metal and when t he music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the music also brings in elements of post metal. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length while clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and when s creams are added onto the recording they are high pitched sounding sludge screams.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while elements of dark electronic music can also be heard in some parts of the recording. One of the songs also brings in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some of the screams also showing an influence of black metal and as the album progresses a couple of instrumentals are added onto the recording. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album that covering the inevitable destiny of every human being through life.
In my opinion The Haunting Green is a very great sounding mixture of drone, dark ambient, ritual, dark electronic music, post and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Natural Extinctions" and "Rites Of Passage". 8 out of 10.
