Liholesie are a band from Russia that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a ritualistic, ethnic and shamanistic mixture of dark ambient and neo-folk and this is a review of their 2021 album "Shamanic Twilight" which was released by Infinite Fog Productions.
Dark ambient style synths start off the album along with some ethnic style instruments a few seconds later. When drum beats and percussion are utilized they also give the music more of a tribal and shamanistic atmosphere while all of the songs are also instrumentals and some of the tracks are also long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while folk instruments are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording. All of the songs also sound very different from each other along with some stringed instruments also being added into some parts of the album as well as some tracks also adding in touches of electronic and new age music and the closing song also adds in some acoustic guitars.
On this recording Liholesie takes neo-folk, dark ambient, ritual, new age, ethnic and electronic music and mixes them together to create a very diverse album as well as keeping everything instrumental while the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Liholesie and if you are a fan of ritualistic and shamanistic dark ambient and neo-folk, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Thousands Of Pathways" "Sorrow Of The Depths" "The Night After The Ritual" and "Gray Wings". 8 out of 10.
