Metadevice are a solo project from Portugal that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of harsh noise, death industrial, drone and dark ambient and this is a review of his 2021 album "Turba" which will be released by New Approach Records.
Harsh noises and power electronics start off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard at times. Industrial style beats are also mixed in with the harsher sides of the music along with the electric guitars also mixing in elements of extreme metal when they are utilized and the songs also mix in a good amount of drones.
Loops are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording while the synths also add in touches of dark ambient. At times the music also brings in the brutality of death industrial along with the songs also bringing in a very heavy bass orientated sound along with each song also sounding different from each other.
Some of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as one of the songs also introducing aggressive screams onto the recording and a later song also adds in a small amount of homemade instruments, as the album progresses a brief use of guitar solos and leads can also be heard. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics are based upon the writings of T.S Eliot. Thomas Pynchon and Nathanial West.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Metadevice and if you are a fan of h arsh noise, death industrial, drone and dark ambient, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mobile Vulgas" "Enantiodromia" "Magneticisque Corporibus" and "Ao Vazio". 8 out of 10.
