Ajna are a solo project from New York that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of isolationist soundscapes, dark ambient and drone and this is a review of his 2022 double album "Mors Ultra" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Dark ambient style soundscapes and synths start off the album while also adding in more of an isolated atmosphere. Atmospheric sounding drones are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length and the recording is mostly instrumental.
Each song also sounds very different from each other while the music also goes into a very atmospheric direction at times. At times the music also brings in the feeling of more of a metaphysical or astral journey along with one song also introducing more distorted sounds onto the recording and some tracks also a dd in primitive and repetitive touches.
On this recording Ajna takes isolationist soundscapes, dark ambient and drone and mixes them together to create something different from his previous releases as well as keeping everything instrumental. The production sounds very dark while t he song themes focus on the survival of consciousness after death.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ajna and if you are a fan of isolationist soundscapes, dark ambient and drone, you should check out this double album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deep Black Spirals" "Tunnel Experience" "Ophidian Current I" and "Ultraconsciossness". 8 out of 10.
