Darja Kazimira is a solo artist from Latvia that plays an improvised and shamanistic mixture of experimental and ritual and this is a review of his 2022 album "Medea Forgives Jason" which was released by Cyclic Law.
Bell's and field recordings start off the album while the shamanistic style throat singing and chants takes the music into more of a ritualistic direction. Percussions can also be heard at times and also gives the music more of a tribal atmosphere and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Whispers can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the music also goes into a very experimental direction at times. When spoken word parts are utilized they also enhance the occult vibe of the recording along with the chants also having their melodic moments as well as each track also sounding very different from each other, elements of ethnic music can also be heard in some parts of the album, as the recording progresses a small amount of stringed instruments are also added on a song.
Danja Kazimira plays a musical style that takes experimental and ritual music and mixes it with shamanistic music to create a sound of his own as well as all of the album being improvised. The production sounds very dark while t he song themes are inspired by the anthropological philosopher Rene Girard and Euripides tragedy "Medea".
In my opinion Darja Kazimira is a very great sounding improvised and shamanistic mixture of experimental and ritual and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Morning Of The Severed Head Of A Black Cock" "And The Gods Are Leaving Me" "A Hungry Dagger Plays With My Children" and "Dance Of The Obedient With Daggers". 8 out of 10.
