Olli Hannien and Sami Hynninen are a duo form Finland that both come from separate musical genres with their full time projects and on this recording goes for a mixture of experimental, drone, jazz, field recordings and synth pop and this is a review of their 2022 double album "Chambers" which will be released in September by Svart Records.
Electronic orientated drones start off the album while sampled voices can also be heard in the background at times. Home made instruments are also added into certain sections of the recording along with the songs also adding in a decent amount of spoken word parts and at times the music also goes into more of a ritualistic direction.
Synths and electric guitars are also added on some of the tracks while some of the vocals also add in more of a shouting extreme metal style. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with each song also sounding very different from each other.
Touches of jazz music can also be heard on a few of the tracks along with some songs also adding in more of an 80's synth pop style. Clear vocals can also be heard at times as well as some filed recordings also being added into certain sections of the album, programmed beats are also a very huge part of the recording and they also add in influences of industrial. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album based upon the 18 chapters of the Buddhist Hell.
In my opinion Olli Hannien and Sami Hynninen are a very great sounding mixture of experimental, drone, jazz, field recordings and synth pop and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chamber Of Wind And Thunder" "Chamber Of Oil Cauldrons" "Chamber Of Eye-Gouging" and "Chamber Of maggots". 8 out of 10.
