Blood Incantation are a band from Denver, Colorado that plays a very atmospheric and technical form of death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Starspawn" which will be released in August by Dark Descent Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album along with some death metal growls as well as some melodic yet technical guitar leads which all are a very huge part of the recording and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and the music has a lot of 90's roots.
A lot of atmospheric sounds can be heard quite a bit throughout the recording which also takes the music into more of a modern direction and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and there is also a brief use of high pitched screams while the slow riffs are heavily influenced by funeral doom metal.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and clean guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and the songs also mix in elements of ambient into the heavier parts of the songs while also being very progressive and avant garde at the same time and there is also a brief use of melodic vocals and clean playing as well as a few spoken word samples and some of the screams also bring in a touch of black metal and they also bring in an acoustic instrumental before closing the album with another heavy track.
Blood Incantation plays a musical style which is mostly rooted in death metal while also mixing in atmospheric, ambient and funeral doom elements which also makes the music stand out a bit more as well as being very original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Anunnaky Mythos and Astral Death themes.
In my opinion Blood Incantation are a very great sounding atmospheric death metal band with a touch of funeral doom and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Chaoplasm" and "Starspawn". 8/5 out of 10.
